(More customer reviews)For classic Halloween imagery, this poster is hard to beat. They take the most obvious visual metaphor for the season-the Jack O'Lantern-and cross it with yet another iconic horror image, that of a ghoulish skull. There are a number of ways you could have gone with this, but I think they made the right choice.
For most people, a Jack O'Lantern is, ultimately, a symbol of fun, of nostalgia, of harmless 'scares.' But using it in concert with such a diabolical skull's visage makes it something else, altogether. That face pretty much takes 'fun' out of the equation, to say nothing of 'harmless.'
And this is largely what the Halloween movies are all about-the irony of imposing true danger into a holiday that is built around the idea of innocuous 'evil.' The juxtaposition of the very literal, carnal embodiment of Death, itself, into the middle of what is intended to be a lighthearted exploration of that phenomenon.
This classic image is the ideal metaphor for the Michael Myers' concept. Without a doubt, one of the finest movie posters ever conceived. I display mine in a black, metallic frame, and it looks incredible.
For classic cinematic horror imagery, this poster is in a class with very little competition. That imagery is heavily symbolic, of course, since nothing in the film bears any literal resemblance to the poster.(as opposed to the well-known poster for Carrie, for example, which depicts an actual scene taken straight from the film).
But as a metaphor for the Halloween series, this poster is brilliant. You take one look at it, and it just feels like Halloween. Handsome, creepy, macabre..........yet tastefully so. Everything you could want in a movie poster.
