(More customer reviews)It's pretty ill reviewing the poster but, appallingly, this film, Lewis' first for Columbia and, arguably, his last masterpiece, is not available in any commercial format. Stare at the poster for 90 minutes. My favorite Lewis premise is the unstable identity schtick and this one features, you guessed it, three, including the lovably jiving Ringo Raintree. The supporting cast, including a wantonly funny job of straight men played by James Best, is splendid. Janet Leigh is her usual superb self, grounding this effort considerably. (Kathleen Freeman and Buddy Lester also get nice bits.) There's a bit of a lag in the middle, underdeveloped gags perhaps, but, wow, the anxiety dream quality of the office party routine at the end is utter genius. Here's the Jerry Lewis movie where "the French" recognize "all the years of hard work." You, too.
