The full spirit of the wonderful, (wonderful!!!!), movie,
"WHAT'S SO BAD ABOUT FEELING GOOD?", starring George Peppard and Mary Tyler Moore, is fully and delightfully captured in this delightful movie poster. The two leads kissing each other, as police stand menacingly in the background, ready and eager to pounce upon and arrest them! It is loosely based on the novel, "I AM THINKING OF MY DARLING" by Vincent McHugh. McHugh's novel was written in the 1940s....but the movie updates the time to 1968, (when the movie was made), and changes the lead characters and the plot slightly. The "happiness virus" however, is still the centre-piece of the plot, and this movie makes the book even better!
Taking the time of this movie's making, (1968) into consideration, and adding the "happiness" virus' carrier, (a large-beaked, Mexican touchan bird), and having the lead characters be a hippie artist and his girlfriend, it doesn't take too much of an imagination to realize that the "Happiness Virus" may have been a concealing name for marijuana, and other now-illegal "happiness-forming" drugs. At least those who take the drugs FEEL happy. Whether they really ARE happy or not is a matter of conjecture, (once the drugs wear off, are they no longer happy? Then, obviously, the drugs didn't MAKE them happy, only made them FEEL happy -- which is a slightly different thing. I mean, THINKING you've won the lottery makes you FEEL happy....then learning the officials made a mistake with one number, and you didn't win the lottery after all, means you only THOUGHT you were happy. Drugs don't bring happiness...it's an illusion. A nice illusion -- but still, an illusion. To FEEL happy, you don't need drugs.....just a few good nights' sleep! Then you can get out and work at attaining wealth, or health, or fame....or what ever will really MAKE you happy!) That said, this poster, again, brings the joy and delight, (and happiness!), of this movie to life as much as any poster can! Now....all we need is a DVD of this wonderous movie to be made -- or even a remake of the movie, set in the 21st century! It's a great idea! (And a remake of the movie can even emphasize that drugs are NOT needed for happiness....just a lot of sleep, and a lot of optimism!)
SO, PLEASE EITHER REMAKE THIS MOVIE, OR AT LEAST MAKE A DVD OF THE ORIGINAL! The poster gives but a taste of this beautiful movie...and I -- and I hazard anyone else fortunate to have seen this film -- wants this poster to be "brought to life", once more!
